Pencil Portraits

Some of the greatest works of art have been created using nothing more than a carpenter's pencil and a piece of paper. When I first started doing oil portraits, I did very detailed pencil drawings before I started to paint, but in some cases, I worked so hard at getting the drawings right, that I didn't want to paint over them. Now I intentionally start out doing one or the other, a quick pencil sketch for a painting, or a detailed drawing on paper.
